But that's not really the reason. Freshies are half the length of salties* and quite timid. They live in waterholes and plunge pools that people swim in all the time. Most people have no idea they're there as they hide away in quiet corners or poolside vegetation. Only rarely do they bite, a bit like a dog bite, and only if severely provoked and threatened, such as when people poke them with a stick to get them to move or get right up close for a photo. Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.
