One of the few salvaged images from National Train Day. Suffered a catastrophic shutter failure.....and the spare body was no where convenient. :(

Very nice Dan. The smoke has a near 3D quality and the reflection on the side helps separate from the background.

Train was coming out of a heavily wooded area. The trees made for some half decent light....even at mid-day.

Great shot, you've just given me inspiration, have a steam train ride that operates on sundays near where I live, i'll be out trying to capture it without being flattened.

Believe it or not.....this was taken post failure. Took me several hours to recover this. Below are the frames immediately before and after this one. Should give you an idea of what I had to work with.

When the shutter failed on my 1Ds, the white stripe was on the bottom, which made it easier to salvage a couple of the shots. Your are to be commended for the patience it must have taken to fix that.

Some of the shots are just not salvageable. A few of them are. Not only is the one section blown out, but in many spots the focus seems to be way off too. No fix to that at all.
