I bought a Tamron 90mm f/2.5 from ebay a while back and it was sold as an FD mount lens. I've just taken delivery of my FD/EF adapter and the lens doesn't fit. I've no idea what mount it is so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks muchly!

Edit:
I've been looking at pictures of mounts and it looks like it might be the "Adaptall" mount, anyone able to confirm this and if it is would this solve all my problems:

Yes it's the adaptall (2 or 1) mount. It's a good news because you can find easily adapter to EOS. And this lens is a very good one.

(FD to EF adapter is a joke... you lose quality or infinity :D )

I've got several Tamron adaptall lenses adapted on my 5D and I'm impressed by the image quality.

Does it matter if it's 1 or 2?

I've got a glassless FD/EF adapter as this lens was bought with macro in mind (so infinity focus isn't essential)

Also, some of the Adaptall/EF adapters I've seen say "diaphragm control is set manually", which I don't quite understand. Does this mean there is something in the mount that depresses the linkage so whenever I turn the aperture ring, the diaphragm responds?

I've got a bid in on an Adaptall/FD adapter (seen these go very cheaply so fingers crossed - max bid is a fiver!) and I've picked up an Adaptall/EF adapter (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk …RK:MEWNX:IT#ht_4083wt_754 (external link))
Figured it was worth a shot, and it's had some good reviews in the feedback so hoping it's what I need, just hope there's no glass in it.

Will post with results once it arrives!

The Adaptall/EF adapter is what you need and it will have no glass in it. I too had one of those lenses from when I had Contax/Yashica film cameras. It's very sharp indeed. It can be a bit of a pain to use on an EOS body though, because you have to manually focus and manually adjust the aperture. If you stop down to f/8 or f/11, say, your image will be quite dark and focusing will be quite hard to judge. The alternative is to focus wide open and then stop down, but if you move in the mean time your focus will still be out. That's why as soon as I could afford it I replaced the Tamron with the Canon EF100mm macro - so much more convenient.

I've now got my tamron/ef adapter and it mounts onto the camera, the aperture control works fine and it focusses to infinity. My problem is that when I take a photo I get an error 01. If I rotate the lens so it's not locked into place it takes the photo fine. Obviously I'd like to have the lens secured fully and being able to take a picture so if anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them!

What it means is that the lens has no automatic aperture coupling, limiting you to stopped down usage only

When you use a normal SLR lens, its ALWAYS wide open when you're looking through the viewfinder, the lens only stops down to your picture taking aperture when you press the depth of field preview button or in the brief period of time you expose the imaging sensor

With one like this, when you set the lens to say, f/8, it stops down to f/8 unless you open it back up, this can make focusing/composing difficult as your viewfinder will be very dark (if you want an example, simply set one of your other lenses to f/8 and press your depth of field preview button)

I know that, and I'm okay with that, but the error 01 is confusing me, why should there be a communication error when there's nothing to communicate with (no electronics in adapter or lens)?

^- oh right....Crap i remember i've read the answer to that before but i dont remember what it is...im sorry :(

iirc it doesnt think a lens is attached or the lens is attached and theres a lens communication error...by loosening it you're telling it theres no lens attached and it lets the shutter fire...

From my searches a fix is "taping some of the pins down" but I don't know which ones. :(

I believe on 1D bodies do this - it has a mechanism to detect a lens is attached, and then expects comms also and complains if there isn't, whereas non-1D bodies don't care.

I've tried keeping it open as it suggests here: http://www.anestore.com/acess/ring/afring/afeos.htm (external link)

But I still get the error 01. I'll keep trying to get it working though. Are there any reports that this actually works?

I had a thought and checked to see if the FD/EF adapter would give me the same problem, and it does. I just don't get it.

Another thing I've thought of is that if this pin needs to be pushed back to not communicate, why should it be able to fire with nothing in the mount. When I push the pin back manually (nothing on the mount besides the paper) and try to fire I get the error 01 again. I'm thinking of taking the dremel to the troublesome part of the adapter to see if that resolves it. Any thoughts?

I'll probably attack it with the dremel and see if that solves the problem. I'll post back when I've done it (successfully or otherwise)
