I was recently contacted by David's Bridal to see if I wanted to be their one photography vendor at a particular store. For a monthly fee, they give you exclusive access to brides at that store through in store setup and mailing lists. Anyone do this and is it worth the money?

I'm always shy away from paying to have to 'maybe' make money. I doubt they have any guarantees. Ask what happening to the last person they used.

Not sure if it's still this way, but when I was getting married I kept getting a ton of junk email from David's Bridal. It was extremely annoying and I definitely would not have wanted to work with any of the vendors that were now spamming me. So I personally wouldn't do it.

It seems to me that this is probably NOT how most brides find and select their photographer.

Or the brides that you want to attract. Recently stood behind a bride and mom at the local Walmart bakery trying to ordering a wedding cake. Can't imagine that photo job would be all that great.

Um... how are you getting "Walmart" from "David's Bridal"? I don't think I get this comment.

Not comparing one with the other, just an observation. Always equated David's Bridal with bad associations of "budget."

I can't imagine brides shopping for a $99 wedding dress special would be, on average, a great client group. *shrug*

David's Bridal has sales, but they also sell Vera Wang and Galina gowns. Brides can spend $1K-2K there if they wanted to. Which is about average, at least in my area.

They don't have David's Bridal here, at least not yet. What is it exactly? Like a chain/franchise wedding dress boutique?

David's Bridal is the largest American bridal store chain.

To the OP

If you were offered this at a store, depending on what the costs were to you and depending on what you had to do to secure a spot at the store....it would be a killer deal.

I suspect that you might not be getting the full story. Davids is doing what bella tried to do and a few other corporate wedding vendors have tried to do. They are getting people to work for them for $3-400.00 and cover a wedding while marketing it to the brides for $900.00. This has been tried all over the place. I was also approached and it turned out to be what i just stated. I suspect you have not been told the entire story. Davids bridal is exclusive to no one but Davids bridal and their bottom line. Our weddingday.com, martha stewart and a couple of other chains all market with davids bridal. They sell these bridal lists like hot cakes to all the vendors.
And they do not work very well at all. The girls are bombarded with E-mails and they are at the point where they automatically hit the delete button w/o even opening the e-mails. I would tread carefully and find out additional information.

But if you can get set up inside a store as an exclusive vendor... you are set big time. Doubt that will happen with Davids bridal.
