A House Finch (I think) decided to make a nest in a hanging planter right outside my front door. 5 eggs were laid in total. Here is the first one that hatched, at most a couple hours old:

All of them hatched at 1 day old:

3 days old, and hungry:

I find it fascinating.

Oh my! looks like you may be hearing them squawk quite a bit. fascinating to see i'm sure. I like second shot. a lot of fuzz before the open mouthed begging starts :)

Very nice!

I posted similar pictures of our House Finches last Summer. They are back and building a nest in the same planter on our front porch.

Your great pictures got us excited about our coming brood.

I dont mind the chirping - they aren't alone in noise making around our house. There are owls at night, lots of other birds I hear, and lots and lots of turkeys. I wish I could get shots of the owls but I dont have the right equipment or angles.

I am a bit concerned since they are so close by virtue of me opening my front door I scare away the mother bird. I've taken to exiting as quietly as possible and using the side exit if possible so I don't disturb them. Don't want those little ones to get too cold all by themselves.

Here's a shot of the mother (or father?) that I got from inside the house:

Pretty sure that's a House Finch, right?
