I've heard that glossy uses less ink than the other two. Is that true?

On my computer. Obviously, I'd select the proper paper type for each. And I would print them with same quality setting (e.g. standard).

Matted paper will soak up more ink!
Matted paper is porous / fibrous and the ink must absorb into those pours/fibers, where-as glossy paper is smooth and doesn't actually absorb the ink into its fibers..
