I am very new to this and I don't know how to use the 430EX II off camera. I have a T1i and I was hoping I could do this without any wires. What's the best (and cheapest) way to do this?

Also any help on lighting will be really appreciated. How and where the lights should be kept and in what direction the light should fall on the subject?

Thanks.

The new T3i, 60D, and 7D have a built-in system to trigger your 430EX II, but the older T1i doesn't have that capability.

The cheapest way is to buy a wireless radio trigger from ebay if you don't mind using only manual mode on your flash. http://cgi.ebay.ca …ories&hash=item43a5115b66 (external link)

Wireless ETTL will cost you much more.

If you are willing to spend a little more I purchased this system and just got it today. I got the CST for $59.95 and two CSRB for #$69.95 each.

A lot of people have very good things to say about this product and the company as a whole.
