There should be! We sure pimp Lensrentals enough! It is entirely justified, of course.

At little off the subject, but which lens are you considering renting? I took my 100-400 to the NHRA event in Baytown a couple of weeks ago and was wishing I had a 70-200 to use instead.

Borrowlenses tends to have better prices, even if I'm predisposed to pay Roger

Borrowlenses has 5% off with code SMDJ (local newspaper). They run weekly discounts on a selected lens so worth a look just for that to see what it is. Obviously if you're local they're the best choice because you can go and pick it up.

I miss them being in Burlingame since it was a lot closer to me than San Carlos.

I've been thinking about renting but what happens if the lens is stolen while in your possession? Are we then liable for the cost of a replacement lens. Everyone knows how expensive the "Great White" lenses are and they are a target. The only thing holding me back from renting one.

How much equipment have you had stolen?

That fear seems overblown.

Aperturent.com if you're in the Atlanta area, but they ship all over. Best thing about them is ZERO deposit. I know people in California that rent 5D's from them ALL the time because the day rate is so much cheaper.

I believe your home owner's insurance would cover.

Sometimes cost isn't everything. As far as customer service, selection, and overall satisfaction, Lensrentals.com has never failed me. Another vote for them.

I do worry bout having things like it getting stolen or maybe at the drag races, where I would be using it, That in the past few years Ive been there where we are watching it from, they do a burnout pieces of rubber end up on us. So I wonder if I should rent a lens or borrow one. In the past always had a UV filter on the lenses Ive had in the past. I got to be thinking it could get quite costly to buy a filter to cover the lens element of the lens I rent or borrow, and I cant really afford to do that too. Rubber doesnt clean that easily off of filters from my experience.

They rent filters for pretty cheap, as well as a pretty cheap damage waiver you can add for incidentals.

I have shot a few drag racing events in the past, nothing like the 70-200 for something like that. I have used the F/4 and 2.8's. If you want to save some weight, grab the 70-200 F/4. If weight/cost aren't huge factors, grab the 2.8, either IS I/II or non. The IS won't help freeze shots for when they are coming off the line since it helps static shots, but the second stabilize mode can help with panning, if you doing any panning, and the 2.8 aperture will allow that extra little bit of shutter speed and/or narrow DOF if you would like.
