I haven't followed where they're made but I would suspect those bodies aren't made in Japan and in the case of Pentax and Olympus their sale rate is much slower.

Plus Adorama offered me $575.00 for my 40D kit, so that does help a little.
I got that same kit at Best Buy in February for $1599, and turn around and sold the 28-135. Glad I picked mine up when I did...
