Been looking at the Kata 466i, but I'm a little hesitant without the ability to access the camera compartment on the fly. Which other bags should I look into?

My preferences for the bag;

  • SLR w/ short lens attached
  • 1-2 additional lenses & Flash
  • Compact Tripod attachment
  • iPad
  • Fast Access (while on back - ability to swing around and access/stow camera)
  • Moderate space for personal items (sunglasses, water, etc)
  • Comfortable
  • $100 or less (preferably, willing to go to $150 if necessary).

So far the Kata 3in1-22 may be the best bet, but I'm not sure if i like how narrow the bag is and the Tripod mount is $20 extra (which would put me around $120 after rebate). Not sure about other companies, any recs will be considered. Thx!

This will work with the things you want to carry and quick access. It's a Kata LighTri-317 PL Torso Pack. They sell smaller ones if this one is too big. http://www.bhphotovideo.com …ri_317_PL_Torso_Pack.html (external link)

Hmmm, i like the look of it, but i'm not sure if it will work for me. It doesn't seem to have room for an iPad nor a tripod attachment.

Thanks though!

Ive got the fastpack 350 as well, and it does everything quite well, but it doesn't have a tripod attachment point

Yea, the fastpack would be perfect if it had a way to mount the tripod, but without it i'm not sure if its the best for me.

I think i found one that might work - The Tamrac Evolution 8 - http://www.tamrac.com/5788.htm (external link)

At $160 its a bit pricier than I would prefer though, gonna keep looking

There is an exact copy of the Tamrac Evolution 8 made by Vivtar and cost half the price at $89.00. You can read about it here.

My favorite is the Rotation 360 (external link). It's expensive but you're paying for innovation. I use it on every outing. You have to watch the videos on the site.

You can also look at the Kata 467i. Has got everything except the fast access. You can take out the camera by swinging the bag but not exactly a fast-access system.

yep i purchased this in anticipation on purchasing my 60D but less than a month on and with a 18-55mm lens a 70-200 lens and a 140 to 300 lens ...i'm already running out of space ...if your carrying smaller lenses not an issue but 2 larger ones an im having to store them in the "carry all" section at the top which offers little or no protection to the movement of the lenses being carried unlike the bottom half which is excellent

I'd consider the Case Logic DCB-309 SLR backpack (external link). It's something I'm likely about to get and looks to be a great choice for the price. Plenty of camera storage, space for up to a 15" laptop (so plenty for an iPad), and additional misc. storage here and there. Even has a pouch on the side to carry the legs of a tripod or monopod that's also strapped to the side.
