Last night (here) was a Lunar-X moment and there were some gaps in the clouds.

I also managed to get a closer view with the webcam.

I wish I'd spent some more time with barlows and things but the mozzies were having a feast.

Steve.

Well done. The first shot was all it took. It was clear to see. From my short knowledge of photographing the moon, I hear this is a very difficult shot to take. Congrats.

Nice one Steve :)

I'd never heard of the Lunar X until very recently when I read it on a forum, I looked back over my moon shots from April and I'd captured it without even realising it :o

Haha ! :)
Well done. It took me a couple of years to get one where the moon was visible, no clouds, able to get out, etc. I think it's pretty neat that you can go back and find that you've captured something like that.
The last time I got anything like that was a supernova in the LMC in 1987.
The problem is that there are fewer and fewer people that you can show it to and not get a blank look back.

I still have it. I even have a fair idea where it is. But it's a slide and it isn't worth posting. It's pretty much a sea of green with an out of focus orange dot and a couple of white dots. But _I_ know what it is. My Halley's shots are similar. Nostalgic for me. :)
Piggy-backed Canon A1 on a 4" f/9 Newt on an undriven EQ1 for 20 minutes. My back aches just thinking about it.

Very cool shot!! Excellent detail!! I have yet to capture Purbach's Cross, seems clouds or time or something always intervenes.
