Hi guys I'm heading over to Indonesia in July and I want to take my camera gear including my underwater housing

Im after the smallest possible case for my gear, for obvious reasons, and i have included a couple of options of how i could organise it to allow at least the minimum set up to make it with me unscathed (If needed any excess gear will go in a backpack as per normal, the hard case is just for flights and also when im in boats heading to the islands as we are going to more remote areas of the Mentawais island chain)

First of all pictures of the gear I would like to fit in the case all together (this is all my current gear) and second would be the set up that i would be at least content to only have if something horrible happened to the backpack

1)Has the water housing with dome port for the tokina 10-17 and also the 50 1.4, as well as the 70-200 port with the 2.8 put inside to save space. The included dimensions I worked out for what i would need for this is Length=44cm, Width=36cm, Height = 18cm (might have to take the dome port off the housing to reduce the height)

2)a) 7d outside of the housing excluding the 70-200 lens

b) 7d in the housing to save space. L=39cm, W=34, H=12cm

I am mainly a surfing photographer and i prefer to shoot from the water though that doesnt mean the 70-200 wouldnt be missed if something happened to it, though i would rather minimise size and weight of the case so maybe it has to go?

The options i've got keeping in mind that it needs to be fly-able are

Pelican 1500: LxWxH = 42.5x28.4x15.5cm

Pelican 1510: LxWxH = 50.1x27.9x19.3cm

Storm im2400: LxWxH = 45.7x33x17cm

HPRC 2500: LxWxH = 45x32x17.5cm
http://www.dirtcheapcameras.com.au …AMRE-2500-With-Cubed-Foam (external link)

I dont care what brand of these it is as they are all good, but unless someone can convince me otherwise ill stick to the above brands. I will start out with the cubed foam and if that doesnt do anything me i will try the dividers though i would prefer the foam as it will be a snugger fit

What would you do in my position? I need at least the setup in 2b

Cheers,
Rob

I just got the 1514 and it fits everything I have in my sig. I can email you some pics if you want. I was able to ut all my lenses, body, hoods, chargers, batteries, cables, flash using the dividers. It is heavy. As a carry on I don't know if it would be within the weight limit. It's pretty heavy. The 70-200 is a pretty heavy lens. The case itself is a good chunk of weight just empty. Good thing it has the wheels. Seems to me you can fit your first option given some creative placement.

Dividers are CHEAPER if you buy them with the case. Cubed foam is simply worthless as far as I'm concerned. To each his own, have a great trip

Hmmm given me more to think about, thanks for the replies guys

I am now considering going to dividers, will it be able to be wrapped tight enough around the gear so that it wouldnt move or get damaged? as that was my only hesitation considering you can rearrange infinitely better.

Would also mean i could get a smaller case since there would be less space between items...Hmmm looking like the better option

I went with the foam... yep... never again... go for padded dividers. Check the pelican 1515. I got mine from a friend. This thing has been to 2 wars and thrown out of a plane.

THATS AWESOME!

LOVE Pelican! Best made!

OP: Go with the 1514. I think you could fit all your gear in one of those nicely.
