Was a bit rusty having been without a camera for a little while which led to me making a few very silly mistakes at the start of this event so I've got less good shots than I'd like, but it wasn't a total disaster as I noticed the error immediately.

Images link to their Flickr pages which have a bigger version.

Darren,

These are well taken and exposed, but they lack something compositionally for me, as they are essentially a frame filling shot with not a lot of 'action' going on. The Orange scooby shot is the best of this selection. I think the shooting location has let you down on the other shots.

Just my opinion though!

Cheers,

Simon.

Just a 40D and the cheapest 70-200mm L (f/4 non-IS).

I agree Simon, I started walking off down the stage and it was all narrow track with little to no space at the side and mostly straight or with trees in the way. I walked so far along and stopped to just make do as I didn't want to get caught out walking down the stage (there wasn't even space to walk along the side of it as it was steeply banked) when it went live. I moved a bit during the gap between the historic and modern cars but it was more of the same.
I'd have stuck around where I was for #2 but I was stood on a very steep bit of banking that I was unsure of staying upright on and I'd have ended up on the stage had I fallen down it.

I think in future I need to do a scouting trip either days prior to the event or by getting there very early as I'm new to attending events so I'm not familiar with stages and it's difficult to get full stage maps.

I was parking the car before 7am on Sunday. I always like to be where I am going to watch each stage about an hour before car 0, so that gave me a full hour to select a spot. Getting there early is always worth it in my opinion.

However, as Hamsterley is only 30 minutes away from home, I might have done a bit of an illegal reccie on the Saturday ;). If anyone asks, I was just walking the dog, no honestly I was

I ended spending the day between J2 and J7, using the cut through at J2 so I didn't have far to walk.

Simon
