Please tell me why trading in my Canon 430EX II for a YN-468 and another YN-560 would be a dumb idea? I'd LOVE to add another YN-560 for back lighting (I already have two) and the YN-468 for use on-camera during weddings which right now is the only purpose my 430EX II is service because it seems to not like my triggers.

I've been comparing the 430EX II and the 468 on various websites and the only real pro I can see for the 430EX II is the E-TTL Optical Slave mode, which I have no intentions of using, and wider range on the zoom head which is nice, but do I really need that?

flashes are the only things I do Canon-only. I got Tamron lenses, eBay adapters to use 35mm glass, but I'm not trusting some sweatshop-made flash built with child labor in China with my $1200 DSLR.

While I sell this brand of flashes, and are awesome for the price. I wouldn't be confident to trust a 468 as my wedding flash. My advice would be Keep the 430 as your main flash and just add a 560.. Which triggers you have ?? BTW: a 468 will not hurt your camera, but they can fail in the worst moment.

I agree with the others. You have some really nice equipment, why skimp on the flashes. Especially for a main flash. If you wanted to pick up an additional YN-468 and keep the 430EXII on camera, I'd be game for that idea.

EDIT: Do you have the 580EXII listed on your gear list too?

Oh yeah, I should mention that the 430EX II is my BACK-UP on-camera flash at weddings. :) The 580EX II is my primary flash at weddings. The only reason I ever use the 430 (or the 468) is if the 580 fails. Which it never has. But just in case, I always bring a back-up.

ETA: I guess I should clarify further that my thought process is, why have a $300(ish) back-up flash that I hardly ever use when I can have a $100 back-up flash that I hardly ever use and a third flash for studio that I would use often. I know I can only sell the 430EX II for $255ish but that would still get me the two flashes with money left over.

Oh, and I use the Cowboy Studio NPT-04s until after my move (then I'm upgrading to the Cactus V5s). The 430 just hates them. Not sure why, the YN-560s work great on them.

In that case, yes. I see no reason to hang on to the Canon 430 as a backup if you could sell it and get two flashes, and get more use out of them.
