Hey guys and gals,

Today I went ball head shopping as I finally tired of the dropping 498rc2 I have been using for the last couple of years. I came across the Cullmann MB 6.3 http://www.cullmann.de …ail/id/magnesit-mb63.html (external link) at Jim's Campus Camera today. I played around with it at the store and was blown away by the build quality. This thing simply feels far superior to my 498rc2. So I decided to take it home. Once I got home I threw it on my 055xprob legs and mounted my camera. This thing rocks!!! it simply blows away the 498. There was no dropping with any of my lens combinations. The tension adjustment is far superior to the 498 which will change constantly based on the final tightening. The positive clicks on the tension adjuster is great and much more repeatable. The camera does not move once locked down. I fully recommend this ball head. Anyone looking for a great ball head for the price should check out the Cullmann.

Cullmann is rarely mentioned but the few people that have them, swear by them. I have no idea what this model costs but if it's priced like some of their previous models (inexpensive), it's a winner. The big downside is the proprietary clamp/plates.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

I've just ordered a cullmann MB 6.5, which eliminates the proprietary plate problem by using their new QR system which is Arca Swiss compatible :D
Can't wait for it to arrive.
Cullmann have also confirmed that the new QR system is available/will be available for purchase, though I havn't got any idea about the price.
