I've got an outdoor portrait session this weekend, and before that I was gonna shoot my son's little league game, so the plan was to rent a 70-200 f/2.8 but my local shop has then all reserved already.

But they do have a 35-350 which I've never used before.

I was wondering if anyone has used this lens for portraits and if they liked it's performance? Otherwise I'll just rent a fixed lens, like an 85mm 1.2 and not shoot the baseball game.

Not that I'm trying to compare the 35-350 to the 85 I'm just trying to justify only renting one lens and hopefully getting a lot out of it.

The 35-350 was never considered a stellar lens, but it's a very good lens with quite a range. Portraits? Never really though of it that way. For portraits I would definitely lean toward the 85. The 35-350 would be interesting though. It's a decent sports lens and would probably do portraits in a reasonable manner.
