I'm this close to buying an Einstein, but deep inside me wants an Elinchrom.
Can someone point me to the right direction so I can buy my lights now?

TIA!

It would be somewhat helpful to know what you have currently, as well as what you usually shoot.. maybe even some sample images. :)

Elinchrom (external link) - Einstein (external link)

There are two lights. The door to your right leads to Einstein and the salvation of Zion. The door to your left leads back to Elinchrom, to her... and to the end of your species. As you adequately put, the problem is choice. But we already know what you are going to do, don't we? Already I can see the chain reaction: the chemical precursors that signal the onset of an emotion, designed specifically to overwhelm logic and reason. An emotion that is already blinding you to the simple and obvious truth: she is going to die and there is nothing you can do to stop it.

No, I'm not a professional photographer, but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

So I want to shoot from my home-studio for family and friends.
I already have a couple of 580ex's, a couple of Genesis in softboxes that I use for background lights, an ABR800 with a 52" octobox and some old monolight with a smaller octobox.

I need something to be my main key light - put some grided octobox on it and a beauty dish.

I may also have to use this outdoors a couple times a year.

I don't care about the mount of the Genesis (which uses Elinchrom). Those will be used mainly as background light or rim/hair light.

Now, should I get an Einstein or an Elinchrom? I got around $500 or so to spend on one light. I'm also planning to buy a Vagabond Mini.

I can't wrap my head around that one, so I'm just going to shake it off and vote for Elinchrom since you already have modifiers for it.

Like I said, I don't care about the Genesis' softboxes that I have.
I'm not buying a light based on what brand I have now but what would be a better light.

Right.. but they use the same mount. it's a little unusual for me to hear of someone using softboxes (especially more than 1) to illuminate your background, but if it works for you, that's fine. However, if you want to switch to using bare / reflectors on the genesis for your background, you now have a softbox available to use on your key light. So you don't have to go out and buy another softbox..

I'm just having a hard time understanding why you would want to spend extra money to replace working equipment, but that's probably more to do with how I approach things than what you're looking to do. I would rather put the money towards a second light or boom, etc.. but it's up to you!!

Seriously...If it were me I would want all my gear to be as interchangeable as possible. If I already had Elinchrom fitting modifiers, I would go with them.
