Hi, i have bought the above flash and i think is not working properly with my canon 550d.
Its working only in manual mode, and the red light in front of the flash is not working either.
Does anybody know if i can fix it.

Thanks you

There isn't a red light on the front of the flash, that's the slave trigger. And the 460ii is a manual only flash. It isn't ETTL.

Yes, sounds like the flash is doing exactly what it's supposed to

"the 460ii is a manual only flash. It isn't ETTL."

should have researched about the flash before making the purchase.

it says that the slave mode works with E-TTL - means it is able to ignore pre-flashes - but that is a YN-460 II and there's no E-TTL built into the flash itself. But that seller wrote the product description in a misleading way imo.

Hi
Sorry but what it says it 'supports slave modes'.
ie it will fire the manual setting of S1 when you fire your flash on the camera that is ttl, the S2 ignores the preflash that ttl emites to measure and fires on the full flash.
You can use it as a fill or rim/hair light.
Try this with your on board flash, place the flash behind an object in S2 mode at 1/2 power, then take a shot, the onboard should expose you image and the lght from behind should be seen around the edge.
Its all about playing with power and placement.
I know this because when I had a 20D I tried it, you could also difuse or bounce the on board.

I find the slave modes quite unreliable. They hardly work for me at all. That's why I will be getting a hold of some CTR-301P's

The one you have! Just learn how to shoot with both the camera and the flash in manual mode. It is not that hard.

x2!
Bouncing it off the ceiling or wall is the easiest thing you can do to take better indoors shots immediately.
