Here's a couple from a recent baseball game I shot on Tuesday evening. I focused on my timing a lot harder and tried to keep my crops tight. They're probably not tight enough, but I get scared going any tighter :p

Delete #3. No face, no action, nothing worth saving.

I would crank up your shutter speed to at least 1/1600. This will eliminate the blur in your photos, with the exception of the ball. I think you'll need at least 1/2000 to 'freeze' the ball.

Consider cropping tighter. While focusing on the subject (batter, pitcher, runner) don't forget to keep an eye on the backround.

What are you shooting with?

#2 would be a keeper if the ball and bat was frozen. It appears it was overcast that day, but if you upped the ISO to 400 you could have gotten the shutter speed needed to freeze the ball.

And it looks like you are getting your timing just right! Good job on that.

Thanks, guys. I was shooting in Av at F/2.8. The sun went behind some clouds after the first inning so my shutter speed went from around 1/6000 to 1/1000. I think my ISO was 200. Next time I'll bump it up to 400 when it's fairly overcast.

That happens to me a lot. Just need to remember to always check your settings between shots.

Yep...images 1-3 are all deletes for me...no faces, no action and while 2 is an almost ball on bat shot (which many seem to like) I can't see eyes so for me these are usually deleted in camera.

The pitcher shot is OK but stick to standard crop ratios ( 4x6 or 8 x 10) and then crop this in as tight as possible and then level your horizons..use fence posts as your vertical "plumb"

I usually shoot baseball in Av mode and keep shutter very high 1/2000 or higher and adjust ISO as needed to stay there. I keep f stop at 2.8 or 3.2 if I want a little more DOF.

# 1 & 4 are good. # 2 & # 4 don't work for me.
