Speedlite and Light Stand question

I just got a light stand (Manfrotto 368B) and am trying to figure out how to mount my Speedlite 580EXII on the stand. Do I need some sort of adapter? The little stand for the Speedlite has a threaded hole that seems to be too small for the threads on the light stand. Thanks in advance.

You will need something like this. I cannot find the exact one that I have but you can read the reviews and pick a good one. I think I have this one with this adapter.

There are several good ones that are rated pretty decent I believe.

I would get a umbrella bracket, it allows you to use an umbrella as well as having the right thread to screw your flash into. You don't need the second link.

Here (external link) is the best solution I've found.
Cold shoe takes flash directly and it has teeth to help keep the angle you set with an umbrella in the adapter.

I guess while I'm at it, what size umbrella should I look for?

Thinking of adding a couple more umbrella brackets. Do you know...are these all metal? Description doesn't specify. Also...looks like the only difference between this and the "deluxe" is the enhanced cold shoe?

They are not all metal, heavy duty plastic. They do seem quite robust though. That deluxe version looks exactly the same except for the cold shoe. I don't use either (a version of the deluxe shoe came with my flash bracket - I don't care for it at all). I go direct with - http://flashzebra.com/products/0141/index.shtml (external link) - to attach my Cybersync receivers.

^^^

Thanks for the reply. Come to think of it, I need to check what I already have. I thought it was all metal; but could be wrong. The enhanced shoe is not worth an extra $5 to me.

I've bought stuff from Lon before and I agree, he's a good egg!

This (external link) and this (external link).
They are convenient and cheap. The cheap part is good when the stand blows over and the shaft gets bent. :-)

Sure enough; what I have already is the hard plastic and they seem very sturdy. Looks like Lon's getting another order.
