Plugged in the Canon charger for my LPE6 batteries as I have many times before. I charged the lower level of the two batteries (21%) and as usual the indicator light blinked once per second. After a few seconds it started to blink very rapidly and at a constant rate. Took it off the charger and popped it back on....same thing.

Popped other battery on and it worked normally.

Both are original Canon batteries. The grip is a Zeikos. Noticed that one battery drains much more quickly than the other. Is this normal in a gripped 7D? Today one battery was at 21% and the other at 63%. Should they be staying closer together?

Bad battery?

I'm sure the grip alternates between the highest charged battery so in theory they should discharge at the same rate together.
Sounds like on has gone faulty.

Just use one battery at a time and compare how they discharge. If one does not charge properly this indicates a faulty unit.

You're sure it's original? Alot of the ones on eBay from china are 3rd party even though they come in a canon box with near- identical build.

have you read the manual?

This appears to be normal.
According to page 24 of the 7D owners manual the following occurs.

if the battery...
has a charge level of 0-50% the charge lamp will be orange and blink once per second
has a charge level of 50-75% the charge lamp will be orange and blinks twice per second
has a charge level of 75% or higher, the charge lamp will be orange and blinks three times per second.
When fully charged, the light goes green and remains on.

and from the canon website http://support-au.canon.com.au …nts/AU/EN/8200596900.html (external link)

Thanks alll...

Did look at the manual. The blinking of the lamp is different from when the battery is charging normally. The stages indicated will usually have a "pause" inbetween the blinking patterns, for example: blink-blink-blink...pause. blink-blink-blink...pause. The current pattern is just a constant blink like 4 times per second.

I thought all was original. Suppose I could have gotten a fake...
