After seeing some of the results on here i've decided to invest in some flashes and remote triggers, thing is aside from my sigma ef500 i've never used flashguns. I can bounce the sigma, but i want the flexibility of remote flashes. Thing is, i dont know where to start, octaboxes, softboxes, radio triggers etc etc.

For a budget of around £500 sterling, what could/should i be looking at?

All advice greatly appreciated :D

Cheap flash options are Yongnuo 460II or 560, or Vivitar 285's. Cheap triggers are Yongnuo RF-602, RF-603, Cactus V-5 or other similar. Pick up stands, umbrella adapters, and some umbrellas for cheap as well.

You can get 2 YN-460II, 2 stands, Radio triggers 2 adapters, 2 umbrellas for probably $200 US. Not sure how much it would be for shipping stuff to Ireland though. That will leave you with some money for softboxes and a beauty dish possibly.

The RF-602's work great with my vivitar 383.

For that budget you have a couple of options. Either a couple of hotshoe flashes, like the YN's, along with stands and triggers or one good monolight. Both options have benefits. How are you wanting to use these lights?

Cheers for the advice, i'm hoping to use these for portraits, indoors and outdoors, so they'd have to be fairly sturdy. I have 2 tungsten lights with small softboxes, but they are only really suitable for talking head style video interviews.
