Yes, I simply have not found a need for HSS, any more than I found a need for stroboscopic mode or Rear Curtain Synch. Does not state that 'there is no need', because there are situations needing all of those...simply not within the realm of my own needs thus far.

You can't kill ambient with HSS mode. Like mentioned loss is close to 3 stops. One flash in full power can't kill ambient so I don' know how it can do same when in HSS mode. I have tried two flashes 550ex in kacey beauty dish and at close range you can match sun but not kill it. If someone can, please post example shots with intact exif.

Here is my example. Using 5d, ISO100, f2.8 and 1/1250.

You and I went over this about two weeks ago in another thread.

You can kill ambient with HSS if you have two Speedlites. I showed you an example of where I killed midday sunlight with a 580EX and a 550EX (albeit each on a FlexTT5, which gains me back 1 stop due to HSS efficiency).

Studio strobes and ND filters are a great solution, don't get me wrong. But HSS has it's place, especially if you have multiple Speedlites.
