I recently purchased a used Rebel XSi off Ebay.
It was advertised to have anywhere between 3000-4500 actuations.

After receiving the camera today, I plugged the body into EOSinfo and confirmed a grand total of 9681 actuations, which is far higher than even the maximum estimation.
Furthermore, upon inspection of the XSi, I noticed a small portion of the rubberized grip had worn away and the tripod mount had evidence of light use.
The item was proclaimed to be in "mint" condition...

I've contacted the seller expressing my frustrations with this transaction, and I have not yet received a reply.

So, that leaves me with a decision to make: Should I just deal with these problems, or should I take this a step further and file a claim? I mean, to be honest, these are all pretty minor flaws. However, it isn't so much the imperfections that bother me, as the camera still works just fine. Rather, it's the fact that I was lied to that really gets me upset.

What would you do here? Am I just over-reacting, or do I have a right to be frustrated? ???

If you think you got ripped off, then you did.

So I assume that means you would support a claim?

I've been leaning that way, but I'm afraid of obtaining negative feedback from him on my own account.

File a SNAD (significantly not as described) dispute with PayPal. You will get your money back. You will have to return the camera.

Interesting.

I'll be looking into that for sure.

I am saying this is very simple. The situation is as you decide. Do not over think it.

If it is bothering you, fix it. Life is too short to do otherwise.

It depends....if you feel you got a good deal, even knowing what the camera is like now...then keep it, if not return it, but the shipping will be your responsibility.. or, if you would like, you could ask for a partial refund to make the camera less expensive to the point that the deal could be good in its known state...

part of the dispute process of Paypal allows for the seller to offer different scenarios of refunds (shipping costs can be negotiated as well).

Let me flip it around for you, see if your choice gets more clear.

How much did the seller think about you when taking your money?

That is exactly how much you should think about getting it back.

Unless Ebay has change feedback policy again buyers can't get negative feedback from seller.

The seller CAN NOT leave negative feedback. This is copied from eBay: Buyers can leave sellers negative, neutral, or positive Feedback. Sellers can leave buyers positive Feedback or choose not to leave Feedback.

This is why it is stupid for anyone selling anything used to describe it as "mint". People will always interpret that as new and it sets the stage for disappointment.

You can try starting a dispute. Best case is you receive a partial refund. Honestly, if the camera is the correct model and fully functioning, you would most likely lose the claim. If you win, you would have to ship back with delivery confirmation and insurance at your own cost. If you are fine with what you got for the price paid, you may want to save time and just leave negative feedback.

Wrong. The auction stated the shutter count in an explicit range and it has many more on it. This is a classic example of significantly not as described and I would be very surprised if eBay/PayPal found in favor of the seller.

Ya the buyer would win this easily. If you are alright with the camera, just disappointed with the misleading ad (more actuations, etc..) try to get a partial refund...if not, then return it.
