8 pics is grossly inadequate to share a wedding with... but whatever.

First wedding of the year. Man I felt rusty. I always do for the first couple of weddings of the season.
This took place in the amazing Jasper National Park, Alberta.

The bride actually sent me a text msg the night before, saying she was no longer getting married and to not bother showing up. WTF?
It was supposed to be a prank, except she sent it to me instead of her maid of honour. I freaked out a little. lol

Awesome shots. Are you still shooting the crop bodies for this kind of work? If so, you're restoring my faith that it is indeed the shooter, not the camera. Love your work.

Yes, we live in the most beautiful country in the world! I truly believe it. We seriously have everything. And especially Alberta, which is the crossroads to all the different terrains all in one province! I'm in love. :D

My processing hasn't changed really. I process in whatever way suits the shot, the people, the environment. This setting and these people kinda suited the cross processed look... and the desaturation worked for a few shots, though it's usually something I generally don't like.

It's great to hear from you again, Svetlana!

Sure.

1. all natural light
2. 580EX to camera left
3. natural light
4. 580EX to camera left very close to me
5. 580EX to camera right providing accent light to provide dimension to the bride, and more depth to the beams in the background
6. natural light
7. natural light
8. 580EX to camera left provide the absolute faintest bit of fill cause the groom's eyes were too dark

You know, I was actually kind of annoyed at this shoot because I forgot my Sigma 30 1.4 at the cabin (I got it back later) so I went with my 1Ds3 instead as I tend to prefer one body during formals instead of two. I'd feel naked shooting without my Siggy. I taught a Boudoir workshop last weekend and the host laughed as my main camera I used all day was a 40D and my backup sitting in the bag was the 1Ds3. She described it as "ass backwards". I dunno, it works for me. hahaha

But in all honesty, most of the photos would look pretty much identical on crop. The only shots that would have slightly less DOF on crop is 6, 7 and 8, and it wouldn't even be that much of a difference. Actually, I'm a little displeased with 7 because it's a bit TOO blurred, and 8 I'm quite displeased with because it's TOO freakin blurred... it would be a more interesting shot with the lines and structure of the bridge (kind of like 5).

My setup was the 1Ds3, 11-16, 50 1.2, 85 1.8, and 135 f/2.
If I remembered my Siggy, I WOULD have used the 40D, 11-16, 30 1.4, 50 1.2, and 85 1.8, and I would have gotten almost the exact same shots. In fact, some people say that the 85L on a crop looks BETTER than the 135 f/2 on FF due to the blur quality. Both will give identical DOF wide open for the exact same framing. There are pluses and minuses either way, but the main point is you can do a stellar job regardless of the sensor size.

Oh, I know. I have 2 partners here in my studio, and one is a FF diehard. I moved back to 1.6 after a year with a 1DsII and am still feeling small about it. I know it's the shooter, not the camera... I wish I could shoot like that! Working on it.

First of all, we appreciate you sharing here. Your work is amazing and inspiring.

Question: How do you get that in #4? Stool, holding camera above your head. I mean, focus looks like it's dead on, etc. Just could you give me a little insight as to how you're doing that next to a stream? Thanks!! ;)
