Autofocus 1Ds III vs. 7D

I have a 1Ds III. Is the autofocus on the 7D better than that of my 1Ds III for sports / action (dog photos and birds occasionally)?

The reach advantage is clear to me, so no need to comment on that. I really just want opinions of the autofocus effectiveness on moving subjects of the two cameras, so I can gauge how much value the 7D would add for me. Thanks.

The 7D can track action quite well. I have used it to track swallows, along with much slower birds. If I could not track it with the camera, it wasn't the camera's fault but my own due to lack of keeping up.

The 7D even tracked a dragonfly last summer. :)

I know quite a number of 1D3 (same AF system as the DS3) owners and a fair number of 7D owners ALL are impressed with the capabilities of both AF setups though most seem to agree the 1 Series has the edge. If you can live with the Ds3's frame rate then just enjoy the unrivaled IQ, if not go hunting for a good used 1D3 - or if you have the cash the 1D4 is RATHER good, not quite a Ds but not far off and FAST!
Well at least mine is

I own a 1DsII and use a 7D pretty often for reach. The 1DsII still has an edge on initial lock and in-sequence keepers, and the 1DsIII is better still. The 7D is certainly capable, especially in good light with fastish lenses. It's only in the dark/with teleconverters the 1DsII is obviously better.

I debated between a 1D Mark III and a 7D last year. Went with the 7D. Wish I had purchased the Mark III. I never use the video function on the 7D.

Simply because of the differences in AF? Or other reasons?

Stick with the 1Ds3 IMHO ... I hate my 7D ... not because it's a bad camera ... it's just not a 1D !

I traded my 1Ds Mark III for a 7D and a EF 300L IS f2.8 and while I love the lens (especially on 1 series body ) I miss my 1Ds ...
