You don't want a screw-in grad. Those force you to compose around the filter. With a rectangular grad, as Singh Ray, Lee and HiTech offer, you can adjust where the transition falls, and keep your composition. The 24-70 has a 77 mm thread for filters, but by the time you add a filter holder on there, even with a wide angle adapter ring, you'll need something wider than the next smaller, 84 mm width, rectangular filters to minimize likelihood of vignetting on your 5D at 24.
