Which GND do I need?

I'm taking a trip to Hawaii next month and was looking into GND filters. There are too many choices that I'm a little confused. So I've come to you guys for help. Which brand as well as filter should I go with (.3, .6, .9, solid, hard edge, soft edge,etc.)??

Read through that but it didn't answer my questions. It basically explained what a GND is and its variations...

What camera and lenses do you want to use it with? Where do you want to use it?

If you're going to be shooting sunsets, get a 3 stop reverse grad (densest right at the divide; clear below and fading from the max toward the top).

For shooting toward the sea (or anywhere with a distinct, level horizon) get a hard grad. If you'll be dealing with an uneven horizon, consider a soft grad. Personally, I don't think 1 stop's worth bothering with. 2 or 3 are much more useful.

Best brand is Singh Ray (and they cost, too), followed by Lee, then HiTech. Cokin's got a reputation for bad colour casts.

I'm going to be using it on the 24-70mm coupled with a 5Dc. I mainly want to shoot landscapes (sunset, sunrise, etc.). I'll look into those brands. Thanks!

I'd suggest going with the 100 mm size then.

4x6 3 stop soft reverse GND and 3 stop soft GND should do the trick for you

Useful (and good) grad filters are square. That way you can adjust where the transition falls in your picture.

I have a Cokin medium soft grad that works fine when I have used it. I just handhold it in front of my lens.

You don't want a screw-in grad. Those force you to compose around the filter. With a rectangular grad, as Singh Ray, Lee and HiTech offer, you can adjust where the transition falls, and keep your composition. The 24-70 has a 77 mm thread for filters, but by the time you add a filter holder on there, even with a wide angle adapter ring, you'll need something wider than the next smaller, 84 mm width, rectangular filters to minimize likelihood of vignetting on your 5D at 24.
