Windows 7 & Color Management - Profile Not Loading on Startup

Hi, I have an eye-1-display 2 device from Pantone for color calibrating my monitors. I have created the color profiles, but cannot get them to load automatically when Windows 7 starts up.

I have done a bunch of searching, and the most promising advice I found was to follow the instructions here: http://www.pusztaiphot​o.com …lormgmt/win7/de​fault.aspx which basically say to go into windows Color Management > Advanced > Change System Defaults > Advanced (again) > then make sure "Use Windows display calibration" is checked.

I followed those instructions, and I also made sure I have the correct profile loaded and set as default under the "Devices" tab in Windows Control Panel > Color Management.

I have also verified my Nvidia video card's software is set for "Other applications control color settings" (rather than "Use NVIDIA settings)

And yet, when windows boots, it does not apply this profile. I can easily verify this because I can go into Windows' Color Management > Advanced > then click "Reload Current Calibrations", and this will load the profile correctly. Obviously I don't want to manually do this every time I turn on the computer. I can also run the Eye-1 Display's software (called "Logo Calibration Loader") and this will load the profile, however even if I set this software to run in the Windows Start Menu>Startup folder, it does not apply the profile at windows boot either.

I'm not sure where to go from here? Any tips on what I can try next? Thank you for any help!

I wouldn't have a clue -- have you checked the Pantone/Eye1 support to see if there is a known issue with this in Win7? And, are you using the 64 bit version of Win7? That would be valuable info to communicate to anyone when asking for help!

Thanks for the response, yes it is Windows 7 64 bit

As far as a compatibility problem with the eye1 software and windows 7- I believe it shouldn't be an issue even if there was one. The color profile file was created successfully and I have been able to load it manually to verify this.

From there, now that I have created the color profile file, I am attempting to just get Windows 7 itself to load a color profile automatically (the eye1 software is out of the equation and would not be needed to get windows color management to load a color profile).

Hmm, I just have Win7 on my small inexpensive laptop and don't "trust" it to take well to calibration so, even though I do quick, non-critical photo processing with it with both Lightroom and DPP, I don't have it calibrated and so can't give you advice.


As to the Eye1 software, that seems to be funcioning OK, but then the question is why isn't the OS properly loading the profile? I don't have a clue, and that's where I was suggesting that you check with their support. I haven't heard of Win7 64 having a general "issue" with loading calibration profiles, but like I said, I haven't wanted to try calibrating my little setup.

If you are using pantone products their software should load the profile. You shouldn't be checking to use windows display calibration.

I was able to manually load the profile through both the Windows calibration and through the Eye-1(Pantone) software, and both appeared exactly the same once loaded. They use the same .icc file extension, does it actually make a difference which program is used to load it?

Well, obviously there is something different going on, it's just a matter of finding out what/why that is!

Download and install the latest software from the X-Rite website.

The Pantone software is likely trying to load a file and is resetting the one windows is trying to load. Just use the pantone software as its intended and make sure it is trying to load your profile.
