Did you think about those mini tripods? Got one for about $20 and when I absolutely want to carry nothing, that's the one I take with me. Only 1ft high though, so not usable in all situations.

See the following link. Don't think mine will get to 22" though. It just fits great in my back and if I need something longer I usually find something to put it on/against.

I use the Manfrotto 345 table top tripod kit:

Very stable for a little guy.

Live in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. You should be able to get this anywhere though.

Meant to share this - the greatest mini-tripod I've ever seen/owned. :-) Very tiny when closed up, the little case holds the mini-pod and my Canon IR as well.

I was looking online for one for a friend and didn't find a source in a Google search on Glottos. Any ideas?

Great pics, Dana! I thought I had seen something like this at OfficeMax, but looking on their website yielded only a long version. But I thought Ambico sounded familiar (from that site). Then I looked at BHPhoto.com:

(terribly long link)
In case that doesn't work, try looking up V-0615 Mini Tripod on their site. Let me know if it matches, please.

Hah!! Just looked down the list for BHPhoto "mini tripod" and they have a "Giotto" (logo LOOKS like Glottos" - check second letter). Follow this link...

http://www.bhphotovideo.com …CatID=0___SID=F52C9F1FEF0 (external link)

So what's the difference?? Besides twice the price?

I think I'll try to swing by OfficeMax tomorrow to see if the Ambico extends as much as the Giotto.
How do the legs extend and lock?

That's IT!! I should have thought to look on B&H's site.

The two look like exactly the same minipod, although the Ambico brand is much cheaper!

(Later) Checked again, and it seems the difference between the Glotto (or Giotto?) and the Ambico is the length of their leg extensions. The Glotto's legs go from about 3" to about 7" long in a total of five sections. It appears the legs on the Ambico version only extend about 1", from 3 1/2 to 4 1/2. The Ambico would still be useful to position a camera for a shot, just wouldn't allow as much height.

Thanks!

Dana

Yup. I just got home from Church with a swing past OfficeMax. The Ambico appears to have VERY short extensions, and only one per leg. They are friction fit only and we could only extend two of them. It was actually too hard for me because of overall muscular weakness.

How do the Giotto legs extend and lock? Is it also friction only (push/pull) or is there some sort of twist?

BH also has some SLIK and SUNPAK minis that appear to have a twist lock on the legs. I'm hoping to use this for a chest-pod as well, and SLIK specifically mentions this.

CPW:

The Giotto's are friction, but it's a good friction. :-)

Seriously, they are tight, but not too tight. I've never had a problem w/it changing height/position once set. A twist lock would be better, of course.

I'll point my buddy at the Giotto and the Slik and Sunpak options as well.

Thanks for the pointers.

Dana
