I've got a 2GB SanDisk Extreme II CF Card and it's jiggling when I shake it. I stopped shooting with it because I'm worried it's about to die. What should I do? I got it second-hand from someone else here so I can't exchange/return it.

C&C always appreciated for my posts :)

Stop shaking it so it doesn't jiggle and you'll be OK!

But seriously, i don't think it's anything to worry about. I have a SanDisk 1GB card that does the same thing and a lot of other people have experienced it, too. When I first encountered this "feature", I called SanDisk tech support who immediately exchanged my card because they thought it was defective. The replacement card did the same thing. The SanDisk customer support people are are now wise to it and know that it's what makes a CF card uniquely a SanDisk CF card. ;)

I wonder if it isn't something like a ferrite bead that has come unglued. Ferrite beads are little doughnuts of ferrite material that surround a power wire in order to suppress high frequency noise on the wire.

I wouldn't worry about it for a nanosecond.

I was just wondering because my other SanDisk cards don't jiggle.

Mine jiggles only if I shake it pretty hard. Interesting.

Maybe they have ferrite beads that still have glue on them.

i remember seeing soemthing online about this. it was determined that the chip inside the card basically just sits inside of the casing, free to "jiggle " about. they have a small bit of adhesive to hold it in place, but lots of them come loose. i will try to find the article and post it.

lol.

My sandisk card didn't jiggle, so I think it might have been a third party counterfeit card. So I smashed it with a hammer and now it jiggles like the real thing.

That jiggle is a bit like the front brake squeal on my motor bike. The manufacturers spend a lot of money building those features into those items, so thank your lucky stars that you have them at all! Some people have to go without.
