These additional shots are great too Jon with the third one perfect. I'm especially impressed with your results since you don't have a tilt shift lens...yet. :D

I love #6, and it is amazing, but it would be amazing-impressive-wow ex distortion.

Thanks guys. Gene, thanks again!

Bob, can't ever have too many Flickr friends :)

I use Photoshop for all my pano's, and usually don't have much trouble with merging. Make sure when you take you pictures to leave a lot of overlap between shots. The distortion of the lens will have a big impact on how much overlap is needed. Most of these shots were taken with a 16-35 lens at 16mm which has a pretty good distortion to it at the edges. I made sure to overlap every shot by over 50%. On longer focal length shots you can get away with less. I usually pic a spot on one side of the first frame which is about 1/3rd away from the side I'm rotating to and put that spot in the same place on the opposite side on the next shot. Make sure when you're shooting to try to get the camera as level as possible and rotate it true if handheld.

When processing, try the different selection options as they can yield fairly different results. If things don't yield the results you think you should get, try another choice. If the merging fails try toggling the geometric distortion on and try again.

Having said all that, there is a series of shots I took in this set that so far I can't get to merge. The third shot posted which is a vertical pano is actually the center shots of a 5 shot horizontal pano as well (5 x 2 = 10 shots total). They were taken over a banister but instead of rotating to get the shots I kept camera in the same position on the tripod and slid the tripod along the banister. Unfortunately so far I'm unable to get the pano to merge, so if anyone out there has other software suggestions I would appreciate it as well.

Jon
Thanks for the reply. You have really provided a lot of information about your process, and it does give me some insight into these types of shoots. It also helps put me at ease knowing that you did not "whip" these up 1,2,3.
Thanks again

just a few of my thoughts...
Pierre
