After finally getting some warmer temps and a half a day of some sun the old mercury dropped again back into the 40's. Throw in some more rain and a little wind and you have some pretty miserable conditioins for the birds and for anyone stupid enough to sit out in it. Well I was that silly as I had noticed some orioles hanging around the last couple of days which is a first for us. The wife said she had seen them picking around in the feeders, nosing around the seeds and nuts. I know they like sweet stuff so I had put out a couple of apple slices and a piece of watermelon as I sure would like to see them stay. While I was out I also decided to brave the dark, cold and wet conditions to see what I could come up with. I apologize the shots showing the feed as I usually don't post them, preferring shots of the birds on the perches either before or after eating but the orioles just didn't want to co-operate and rarely went to a perch. They were also shot at very slow shutter speeds due to the darkness so they might not be a sharp as some prefer.

C&C welcome as always.

Love your shots Mike. The long day in the rain and cold temps were well worth it in my opinion!! The 'wet look' makes your images pop.

These are all beautiful shots Mike, sure wish the orioles would stop here for a while, instead of just pass through.

May I ask if you were using the 50D ? Also what lens did you use? I also have a 50D and I cannot get the focus as good as yours.

Thanks Craig - appreciate it

Munroe - thank you

Sharon - thanks and don't give up, this is the first just seeing them period so I am already ahead of the usual game.

Thanks Jim, most kind of you.

Yes I was using the 50D, which I love, and the 70-200 which I also love (but not as much as the 300). Are you sure it is the camera and not the Sigma 50-500?

A very nice set and I love the 3rd one. Looks like it is drenched and trying to brace itself against the weather.

Love the third photo. The rain in the background adds a really nice touch.

Very well done, especially in your weather, which by the way sounds just like ours.

I like number three the most. You can almost feel the wetness.
