It's not Sigma 85 vs Canon 85, because the prices aren't comparable. : o

I think you should also mention your shooting parameters such as headshots/full body/head and shoulders, as well as shooting indoors vs outdoors. Once you have these answered, you will have a better answer on which focal length or lens works better than the other.

85mm 1.8 on crop is insanely tight for indoor shots if you want anything other than head & shoulders. I tried to get a full body shot of a friend indoors and I had to stand 30 feet back or something, probably more, all the way across the room. Too long for me, I ended up never using the lens, will probably sell it someday.

I'm torn on what to suggest. I think the perspective of the 85 gives more flattering results, but if you dont have enough room to work with it then its not a good fit.

On crop I'd go with 50 unless you have a huge amount of space to work with.
