hey guys i just wanted to get everyones opnion on what they would rather have or use.

I shoot mostly sports such as dirt track racing and hockey. I really want to start shooting football and baseball aswell.

So my question is would you rather use a 1d Mk II or a 50d?

I currently have a 50d but am thinking about getting a 1d mk II.

I have a 50D and have used my dad's 1D mark II, which I may own soon too. I haven't shot sports with it yet but my dad has shot countless sporting events with it over the past 4 years or so with it. Anything from baseball, softball, football, wrestling, and some others too. He's also done weddings and senior shots too, it really is a work horse and can do anything just like a 1 series body should. If you can find one for a good price and low shutter count, jump on it.

You need a third option for "Both"
What I would do is keep the 50D as a back up (or second camera) and get the 1D MkII as your primary body.
I use a 1D MkII and a 40D as my second body and use them together in tandem.

Phil,

im not going to be getting rid of the 50d just because I get a 1d mk2, honestly I think my finace is going to get me one for my birthday here in a couple weeks, she even signed up for a account here to look at whats for sale. Also part of the deal with me getting the engagment ring she wanted is that I get a new 1d mk 3 or 4 next year when tax time comes around.

Brandon,
You'll need to come out and shoot with me sometime at the Event Center and we'll discuss it;) Just shot a three day horse show there last week-end. I shoot with both a 1DMkII and a 50D. (Or I did. I just went to a 1DMkIV.) There is absolutely no question about it. For sports, I always grab my 1D and the 50D sits very patiently in my bag as back-up. There is just no comparison. The 50D is fine. It just isn't a 1D.

I went from a 20D to the 1D MKII, took a lot of getting sed to but for action etc. a must as the focus seems so much quicker and sharper. Sorry no experience with 50D.

hi all,
im a 50D/7D user, i love the 50D no complaints but recently thought of getting me a wide range body. im planning to trade my 50D package with either a 1ds-eos, eos 1d MKII or mark III. i hear a lot of people out there loving the 1d mark II so what about 1Ds any comments/opinion ?

if your out there tell which wide range i should have in hand along with my 7D.

thank you with love & respect to all!

I used to have a 50d - it's a pretty good camera, even though it's been replaced.
Just to throw a spanner in the works I would make the following suggestions:
1. IQ over frame rate - trade the 50D and get a used 1DS Mk2.
2. Frame rate over IQ (but still very good IQ) trade the 50d and get a 1D3
3. Good compromise - trade the 50D and get a 7D.
Alternatively sell a kidney or two and go Mk4!
Trust me life on dialysis ain't so bad!

Life is for living, cameras are to capture it (one day I will learn how!).
