I wasn't a POTN member during the 16 years of holding a corporate "desk job", but going back to the pre-Web days there was a Usenet photography "news group" that was quite active and that I was very actively involved in from day-to-day, so I can say it's not a POTN "thing" but more about having enthusiasm for the hobby of photography! The fact that digital photography/imaging is tied into the computer "enables" a high degree of desktop "involvement"
! Of course things were different in the "Old Days" -- before the Web caught fire, Windows was not "connected" to the Internet except through the use of third-party software, and access to things like news groups, including both discussions and image posting, tended to be "geeky" and was mostly accessible through something like Unix. At the same time, workplace awareness was not quite what it is today about the quantity of "G&N"-type images and as a result there was a lot of surreptitious "fun" being had, whereas now businesses not only have strict policies in place but also use "snooping" software that can get "misbehaving" employees detected and quickly fired!
And no, that wasn't the cause of me leaving my corporate job in '06
, but I did have at least a couple coworkers I recall who did get canned for that reason!
