Which would you go for....I really didn't like my Sigma and want something a bit sharper than the nifty.

The nifty is razor sharp. (MF with Live View and you'll see exactly what I mean.)

The only issue with it is its shoddy AF system. Otherwise, the thing is great...

I have the Canon 50 1.4 which is a great lens but if I was to buy another 50mm lens it would be the L.

Jon.

What the added benefit for 1000.00 difference. I know L....but from what I have see the 1.4 USM is sharper @ 1.4 than the L.

higher build quality. weatherproofing. half a stop more light. i guess a hood and a pouch counts too. oh yeah and much slower autofocusing

Sounds like a ton of fluff that is NOT WORTH the cash.

IMO.

People who buy the 50 1.2 buy it for the sake of shooting at 1.2. if you want 1.2, spend the money for it, seeing as you have doubts, look at the Zeiss 1.4 or Canon 1.4.

For me the build quality is a huge factor. While the speed isn't that much faster it would/could help. I shoot a lot of events and having faster more durable glass is a big asset. I also shoot in some nasty conditions. Everything extreme cold to extreme heat. I find myself shooting in the rain and in very dry/dirty dusty conditions. In general I think I'm pretty anal about keeping my gear clean and in good working condition but the reality for me is, my stuff really gets used when it's being used. My shooting times also range from a few hours to 12, 14 or 16 hour days. Hardware failures at the wrong time can be costly.

Jon.

If you're considering the Zeiss, I would have a look at the C/Y 50mm f/1.4, and the ZE 50mm f/2.

BOKEH. It's quite similar to the 85L. If you plan on shooting primarily at f/1.2 go for it.

Voted for F1.4 for value for money. Excellent upgrade from nifti-fifty. I had it for a while, excellent lens.
