Just curious as to how much use you get from your camera before you get rid of it to upgrade to a new one?

Doesn't matter. Whatever is on the body when I need/want to upgrade. My T1i had ~20k when I sold it for the 7D. My 7D now has ~30k in 8 months.

What has actuations got to do with upgrading? I'm sorry but I can't understaand your question. Are you saying that a higher number degrades the camera?

I didn't vote as this criteria is irrelevant for me. I work with mostly 1 series and pretty much always upgrade when the new ones come out. They are rated for many more actuations than say a 60D for example. There is so much more to evaluating whether to upgrade than actuations for me.

I upgrade when I get the itch, and have the funds. Actuations has nothing to do with it.

I prefer the 1.6 crop factor--and rotate them at around 100k

I didn't vote because the poll is incomplete. It does not include an option to replace the shutter as opposed to upgrading. I have a 5D2. It's a great camera and serves me well. If the shutter fails in 5 years, then yea, I'll get something newer. But if it fails this year or next, I'll probably have it restored.

I didn't vote because the option - Who gives a Donald? - wasn't there.

Same here (and I love the evolution of "Donald" to this meaning). Actuations is the most ridiculous reason to upgrade I can imagine.

I've upgraded from my 400D at 20K (three years of awful photography, nothing to do with the body), to my 50D, already done 15K

Wow...wasn't quite expecting some of the stroppy reactions this has provoked.

I didn't think the question was really that hard.
There are nine options to choose from and all you need to do (if you wish to take part) is choose one.
I'm simply curious as to how much use people get from their camera before they feel the need/want to upgrade, for whatever reason, to a new camera.

There's no ulterior motive - just wondering - nothing more, nothing less.

I have to agree.

Actually it is complete.
That option wasn't there because the question was asking "before you upgrade to a new one" not before the shutter dies.
If you are replacing the shutter and keeping the body, that's not upgrading - the question therefore doesn't apply.

I'm in the same boat. I replaced two shutters in my 10D before it finally went to Canon heaven. My 1D MkII is on shutter number two.

I actually get pretty nervous about my cars when they hit 100k miles. I know something is going to go out or I am going to need to do some serious maintenance soon. So I can see there being a psychological limit in some peoples minds with shutter counts - especially if they rely professionally on their gear. For me, though, I don't even know how many actuations my camera has. I really don't have a clue. So it isn't really something I worry about.

Shutter count plays no part in the decision...
