Sekonic Wireless Transmitter problems???

I bought the wireless transmitter module for the Sekonic L-358. Instructions simply tell you to plug in the module. Switch to wireless mode and then pick the correct channel (1-32) on your meter. On my 580EX II I am able to select from channels 1-4 and put it in wireless mode.

The metter simply sits there flashing the channel number. The two devices don't appeart to be communicating.

I know there are two wireless modes.. On the back of my meter it says "Use RT-32N" FOR radio transmitter module and thats the module I purchase.

Any idea what might be the problem? Bad module perhaps???

What are you using to trigger the 580 EX II? Do you have some Pocket Wizards? The meter will not trigger the 580 directly, but it will trigger a Pocket Wizard that will in turn trigger the strobe.

Woops.. looks like you didn't do enough research on that one, I'm afraid. :( RT-32 module is for PocketWizards. There is no transmitter for any speedlite, regardless of brand / manufacturer.

What kind of metering are you planning on doing? Do you have a wireless shutter release?

The only way a Sekonic Pocket Wizard transmitter module works is if it's talking to another Pocket Wizard. It can't communicate with any other system or brand of triggers or flash units with IR wireless modes.

To trigger your Speedlight via a Pocket Wizard you need a PW Multi-Max, Plus II, Plus, or FlexTT5.

I love my sekonic but wow what a racket.. you can easily spend 300 dollars on a pocket wizard set up. I wonder if I should return my IR Wireless Module or if I can find a use for it later...

For under 30 bucks I'll just use my wireless remote for the time being.

Well, it's not like the information was hidden from you. It's out there and readily available.

If you're not going to use the PW Radio Transmitter module (not IR) then you may as well return it and use the Auto-Reset Cordless mode in the Sekonic meter.
