Hi,

Do you know any softbox that can be folded for field shooting? i hate those softboxes that i can't fold, small softbox sometimes is not what i need, but large softbox can be difficult to carry in the car, so is there any softbox at medium to large size that can be folded and move around [portable]?

The size i want should be about 80cm and larger [100x100cm will be adequate].

I have several octo shape and square ones from alien bee. The collapsable ones are great for field use.

as far as i know, all of the alien bee soft/octaboxes are foldable. I have a large octa and a large softbox; both are great on location because I can set them up in about 3 mins. They fold sort of like an umbrella and then you just velcro the diffuser on. I keep the inner baffle halfway on so I never have to start from scratch putting it on...it's not a big deal with the softbox where the inner baffle has four snaps, but the octa has eight.

That is great to know, i just checked out the ABs website and saw those foldable soft/octa boxes, but i am just wondering if they can be attached to my lights, i don't have ABs lights.

I believe that the Alien Bees foldable softboxes have a proprietary PCB speed ring and that ring will only work on Alien Bees, Einstein, White Lightning, Zeus and Balcar.

The speedring insert is replaceble though I never done it. Dave need to chime in.

Tareq - Why not get the quickring that Robert did a nice review?

Yes but the ring isn't optional so you're buying the box with the speed ring just so you can replace the speed ring. Doesn't make sense to me.

Hoping that you can change the insert part only to use with other strobes. The speedring is fixed to the modifiers.

All well and good. I just can't see Tareq buying and modifying PCB foldable softboxes to use with his Profoto lights.
