They installed them here last year, too. (Southern Cal. Edison). Fortunately, I haven't seen too much variation in our bills. Our electric bill for the hottest months have run as high as $1,400.00)

OUCH! That sounds like a place where you'd need a 10 acre solar farm to keep up with the power demands.

I would have raised a stink about the increase, but after doing some basic research and calculating the electrical loads caused by different appliances and lights, it was very clear the old meter was reading way low.

Unusual for a meter to be out. Many year ago I spent a month or so as an apprentice working in the field testing people meters and never found issue with one. This was generally the case although I was told the did find the rare one that was out.

 Eeek!

And, here I thought mine was bad. Lucky for me, I'm not trying to cool down as much square footage...

Not much to see, my bike is just an a 10yr old Avanti with only front suspension.

He's doing real well. On mid year school hols for 3 weeks now so for him it's time to hit the xbox. He's ready for some longer exercise so I suggested a few walks to the park and around the block to get some muscle tone going.

I'm in the good books as I managed to tweak the router settings to stop dropouts when he was on xbox live. The smart house phone that can connect to the net to get weather and news was clashing with the xbox.

With the older bikes you have more character and history in them :)

Good to hear he is doing better. The walk should do him well to start of with. Seems like his spirits are doing well also. Do you join him in some xbox :)

Holy carp. My bill is about $500 a quarter. Of that I can get reimbursed about $1300 due to a salary deal we did a few years back. Our company used to be the retailer, but now we are just a distributor. They sold off the retail part of the business. Big rebates here at the moment to install solar on your roof. About 14,000 a month are doing it. For most houses you can usually get a net export to the grid if you can get enough roof space. Solar plays havoc with our network though, we struggle to manage the voltage profile on the network as the solar output fluctuates with cloud cover.

Mind you, there is no heating or cooling in that bill of mine (other than the hot water system). Sitting in the lounge at the moment in a track suit, Ugg boots and a blanket over my legs, it's 50F outside and supposed to be 45F outside. We get by without heating or cooling, but keep saying I will install a reverse cycle AC..... one day.

Have you installed some solar panels in your home? Seems like a good idea.

Not yet, probably later in the year.

A lot of houses up here in Palmdale have a big windmill right next to the main building. It's almost unheard of for a day here to be completely calm, without any wind at all. It's also not exactly rare for a "normal" day's wind speed to top 40mph.

I've been keeping track of the raw data from noaa.gov for this area since late last year, entering it all into an Excel spreadsheet I created. So far this year the highest wind speeds we've seen were in March where, for a couple days, we had sustained winds at 50-52mph and gusts up to 62mph. The building I live in lost a bunch of roofing tiles that week...

Normal daily wind speeds here are in the 20-30mph range.

Ooo 1960's! That would be an awesome vintage picture! :)

I have a LA Noire. One of the better games ive played in a long time. Story telling is strong and it has on of the best character expressions every.

How much would the solar kick back be if you installed it?

The next Batman game is next on his list I think. We usually make his save for them but do buy the odd one for him.

I think the outlay is $4K and you get a good portion of that back (rebates). If you go to the right supplier they then let you pay it off the difference over 12mths.

Right now pay from only $3,990 for a 1.5kW solar panel system*! That's just $199 upfront and less than $160 per month on our interest free payment plan

To get money back they replace the meter with an import/export meter. My current meter only read import power.

Thanks to increased State Government solar feed-in tariffs in Queensland, South Australia and Victoria, you could now be paid up to double the price you pay for energy exported back into the grid from your solar electricity system if you're on a net metered arrangement - that means you’re paid for the surplus electricity your system feeds back into the grid when it generates more power than your home uses at the time of generation.

That is not bad, Greg :D

Though I am doing work for a petrochem company, doing a feasibility study for a 1.2GW plant, that would set them back $1.7bn USD - no rebates for them, though!

 Nothing wrong with Lavender ;)

Ahh yes the next batman game looks to be a very good one. The first one was excellent.

That deal your getting is not bad at all. Do you get to sell your electricity or just keep it all?

Absolutely. 5GTs 2STs.

Then a separate project, is a study regarding CCS, the aux loads for the plant itself is 470MW
