Very photo-friendly from what I understand...

What happened?

State of AZ basically gave it up that they were only revenue generators and did nothing for safety. Seems they didn't generate enough $$$ as the state didn't renew the contract.

I think I know what I'm doing Saturday. Sturgeon Sawmill, a 1914 steam-powered nonprofit historical facility, located in northwest Sebastopol is open this weekend. Its entire operation, linked by wide moving belts, spinning flywheels and the cacophony-whistle of steam power, is made possible by just one steam engine, used originally to power the US mint in SF during the Gold Rush and subsequently sold to run timber operations at Korbel Winery.

Sounds like it might be interesting to shoot.

That seems to be the prevailing opinion about the red light cameras around here. That they seem to generate more revenue for the operating companies than they do for the municipalities and do nothing for safety.

Well, busy day today -- last night I decided to grab a little dell XP-vintage laptop from a friend for $60 and get it up and running for my daughter, who has been computer-deprived for a couple years, which has put a crimp in her photography aspirations.

Without boring you with all the details, here's a thread if you insist:

The "Red Light" cameras have actually been shown to have the desired effect. The accident rate has actually gone down around the valley.

I get a kick out of watching the Roanoke Rail Cam.....not just for the trains....there is a 3-way stop in the picture....totally amazes me with the number of people that run it day and night.

I saw an episode of Huell Howser's show from that sawmill. I think it would be a lot of fun to visit! I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures.

Good deal on the laptop Tony....

Yeah, I figure that at $60, just about anything functionable would be worth it -- the little one I work on was $400 retail!
