Today's ride for the Victory Junction Gang Camp Challenge. Their original track data was wrong.....I'd have done way more hill prep if I'd had the right data. Wasn't sure I was going to pull this one off or not. Their track only showed 50' of rise total for the entire route.....so I've been doing mostly flat rides. I found some new muscles today.

Very nice.

I went for a ride this morning... and I'm paying for it dearly right now... :/

Well, remember that those of us in the Eastern US are busy getting our air tanks refilled . . .

While some of us on the west coast are now getting flooded. Holy mother of... I've never seen it rain like this before!

And, I can now say I've been close enough to a lightning bolt to hear the thunder from it *before* I saw the streak of light...

I'm paying for it when I do a 33 mile ride with almost no elevation. I couldn't imagine doing 66.

Well that's a bit freaky...

It was right in front of my car as I was pulling into the parking lot of a Vons supermarket. There was a very loud *crack*, then a BOOM!!!!, then suddenly everything went blindingly white in front of me as the roof of the Vons building was hit.

It was kind of impressive, and fun in a way....

My longest before this was a 60 miler. I've only gone over 50 three times including today. This ride also had substantially more climbing at the beginning as well, plus we were riding into a headwind for quite a bit of it as well, including the steepest climb.

Thankfully the weather was nice for most of it, but it started to get quite warm at the end. I think that's why I'm feeling as terrible as I am, that and I didn't eat nearly enough near the end of the ride. Ah well...

I saw that, 14 miles of total torture and then a nice 39 mile downhill. :)

Been there a few times. I typically feel the charge first, hear the boom, and then the blinding light. It's scary to think about how close I've been to lightning strikes

I've seen ball lightning twice before too... That's some weird stuff. (It likes the railroad apparently)

Miles 23-40 actually really sucked, there are some steep climbs in there, and lots of big rolling hills... The climb right around mile 32 really sucks. :(

I had that happen standing outside my work in Texas but it was a lot closer. A light pole got hit. We were maybe 20 feet away from it. No warning, no feeling the static buildup, just flash/boom all together. I guess it was like FLOOOOOOMMMMMM!!!!!

Loudest sound I have ever heard.
