Does this sound like a broken shutter?

I got an error 99 on my 450D a few days ago, it had just over 38,000 actuation.

When I turn on the camera, the shutter tries to move and error 99 is shown on the screen. (video of shutter at end of post.)

Here's the weird bit. With the battery in and the power switch in the Off position, the shutter will try to move and make a noise if, I open the SD card door, when I close it, when I open the battery compartment door, and when I close it.

I was told on another forum that this has happened to a couple of people due to a bad battery and that a new one solved it? I don't have a spare so I'm going to ring around local camera shops and see if they'll let me try a different battery.

Anybody have this happen to them?

Video of whats happening. This was when I was turning the power switch to On, but exact same thing happens in the above situations.

Shutter is now in this position and is not moving at all when turned on etc, it's still making a noise though.

Could it really be as simple as a dodgy battery?

€50 here atleast :( I don't want to buy another one because if it is the shutter I'll probably just get a 60D.

I'll see can I try one when I get a chance, doing exams this week :(

buy a battery, be careful when you unpack it. Try it out, if it works you have a new battery, if not put it back carefully and return it and pick up a 60D.

I'm gonna get one next week when my exams finish, or atleast try one in the store.

Has anybody heard of this happening before?
