What is the most effective method to add a light source to an image in post? I would like to take a portrait that has flat lighting and incorporate a gradient across the face. What program would this require and which tool?

If you don't have any experience using these tools this might be a stretch for a first assignment in it. You would need to know how to do a selection or masking. There are different tools that you could use to arrive at the same end result if you are sure you want a gradient then the gradient tool would fit the bill. You might be able to do some of this in Lightroom with their adjustment brush, I'm not using it anymore so someone else can speak more definitively on this. My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

The local adjustment brush in LR/ACR may work depending on what you shooting for. In PS, you can go to Filter/Render/Lighting Effects and have a lot of flexibility. Dennis

I did a bunch of searches in Google and on this forum with other search terms. I really need to think before I search.
