Birding lens for a 5D2. Recommendations?

To all:

thank you for the recommendations. As mentioned, I'm usually just sitting on the deck shooting what comes around the feeders. Cropping images a bit using the 5D2 certainly isn't an issue.

I do agree with those who mention the huge difference in focal length with the 5D2 compared to my 7D (no longer have). Understand that. But boy, as dreary as it is around these parts, an f/5.6 lens is about has small an aperture as I'd EVER like to shoot at from 20' or so. Once in awhile it's bright enough to see 7.1, but that's close to midday.

As luck would have it, someone is selling a 300 f/4 IS. Just popped onto the buy/sell board. Great. Ask and you shall receive! Might have to snap that deal up.

definitely the 300 f/4 IS. Closest Canon to your price range with IS, and throw on a 1.4tc for good measure(either now, or as funds become available).
