I am not sure if my BG-E1 mounted on my DR 300D is working right I can install two of the 1800mAh, freshly charged, and I still see the low battery icon in my display after only shooting a hundred shots or so. When I pulled them out to recharge them, one was almost dead, and the other was still completely charged. The grip doesn't just use one battery at a time, does it? Am I supposed to swap the batteries periodically while shooting?

I have the same observation. Keep shooting.

Oh, are you saying that even though the battery indicator in the display may show a dying battery, just keep shooting? I guess the grip really uses one battery at a time, and is smart enough to swap them "internally" when the time is right. Interesting.

Does it drain the battery from each battery individually or do you need both batteries in for it to work.. If you do which i'm guessing you do they should both drain at the same time hence the need for 2 batteries instead of just one.

First of all, it will work it you put just one battery in (but you have to put it in the correct side). Second, it seems to drain just one battery at a time, but I've never "stress tested" enough to be sure. Like I said, I have noticed the battery low indicator after only shooting for a few hours, which really wasn't any better than before I got the BG-E1. But when I went to recharge the batteries, one would be completely charged, and the other would be mostly drained. So it looks like either the grip is smart enough to only use one battery at a time and switches them internally when the time is right, or else my grip is defective and can only use one side period, or I have one defective battery, or the grip is not defective, but I should have known that I have to switch batteries manually when the time is right.
