Hey guys,

I have no experience with DSLR video, but I think it could be cool to get into. I would like to know the best DIY rig or set-up for skating and snowboarding. BTW I have a T2i.

Sorry for not clarifying but I wasn't really talking about a new body, more of a grip or something along that nature.

No need for all the bike grips if you are using the handle. Maybe even just buy road bike handle bar wrap for the top handle. I would suggest using conduit pipe instead of the galvanized steel because it is cheaper and little lighter. Its easy to mount mic and light on there too. They sell that strut at home depot in electrical section. This is the way to go!

I will be using this one. Will be going to Home Depot within the week.

The same guy made a lighter one. Looks nice but aluminum is so expensive.

Some pictures of mine that I built. I think that the galvanized steel pipes add a lot of the weight. MIne is 6.0lbs with the conduit half inch pipe instead of the thicker steel. Wouldn't mind having aluminum struts too that would take off almost 3lbs, but this was so much cheaper. Feels really steady filming with it and easy to handle since you can tighten the camera in the position that it is balanced depending on the lens you have on.

Just got all of the supplies. Do you recommend I use the quick release.

If you have quick release already maybe, but it seems just about as much trouble to put the plate on vs. using a screw mount. I just used one from an old side flash holder.

I bought a 1/4- 20 screw that fit the dimensions of a tripod screw but I think it may be to long and if it is too long it could cause shutter issues. Now I'm thinking I might use the top of a old crappy tripod.

I added a few pics without the camera on the cage and of the bottom to give ya a clearer view. An old tripod should do the trick nicely. I just like being able to balance the whole setup with different lenses. Hope this helps

I like what you did with it. What did you use on the bottom instead of the aluminium.
