I've got a strange thing going on with my T1i (500D) and the Yongnuo RF-602s.

First of all, it works fine when the camera has the transmitter mounted and it's controlling the flashes (anywhere from 1 to 3 of them).

But when I try to use the transmitter as a remote control for triggering the camera, I'm seeing something strange. I have it connected according to the rf-602's manual, and have the special cord it needs. When I press the button, it's triggering both the flash and the shutter as expected, but the timing seems to be off: I get no light from the flash showing up in the shot. It appears that the flash is firing before the shutter opens, so no light is getting to the sensor. The reason I think it's firing too early rather than too late is that even when I set an extended shutter time (2 sec), there's no flash visible in the shot.

Anybody seen this, or know what I'm missing here?

Sounds like you have one transmitter and then two receivers on the same channel trying to do this. You need on set, transmitter/receiver, to trigger the camera shutter and then another set to trigger the flash. The two sets need to be on different channels. So you press the transmitter in your hand and it triggers the receiver connecter to the shutter release port. The camera fires and then that triggers the transmitter in the hotshoe that fires the flash connected to the second receiver.

You're right; I had misread the instructions. I thought I could mount the flash onto the same remote that triggers the camera, and when I went back and re-read it, that's not how it works. As you said, I need one receiver to trigger the camera, and then a separate tx-rx pair to trigger the flash.

Thanks!

You can do anything that you want, but what are you going to buy that is less than $40 for another set of RF-602s? You do need a set, not just another transmitter.

I think you can buy just the receivers if you look around.

John, I hear ya. I am very happy with the 603's, have four of them. It's nice being able to use any as a transmitter, and for the whole system to run from the same triggers (shutter + lights). Lack of locking hotshoe is sometimes concerning, but I've gotten over that short coming :)
