f4.5 and f4 make a difference in girth!

It is gonna have to be long still unless it uses detractive optics, it is gonna be larger than the 400 f.56 as well which is larger than the 70-200 f4 I believe?

Yeah, those big primes play well with the 2x. It was a pretty standard combo for me when I went out birding -- sometimes nice and close, even with the 5D:
