Hello folks.
As the title suggests, I recently purchased an XSi with the 18-55 IS kit lens at a local warehouse store. (I was very shocked to see that they still had it in-stock.)

I paid $449.99 with tax for it.

However, there are a couple of problems.
---------------
1. The camera was technically a display model, and as such, it had a few clicks already on the shutter. (30 to be exact.) For most of its life, it was kept powered off under a glass display case, but someone must have taken a few test shots with it prior to placing it there. At least, that is my assumption anyway.

2. Upon using the camera, I unfortunately came across the dreaded Err 99 message. This appeared while I was using Live View and it actually went away by itself after I let it sit for about a minute or so. (No, I did NOT have to power off the camera or take the battery out just to get the message to go away. Strangely enough, it left on its own accord, and I have not gotten the message to appear again.)

3. The internal mirror seems to have a faint mark on its surface. It has absolutely no impact on my photos whatsoever, but it is a bit disheartening to see all the same.
---------------

So what do you think guys? Should I just return this thing and be done with it, or should I keep it and roll the dice?

Does it have the year warranty on it?

If it was me, those signs all point to a return. You got a great deal, but is it worth it if you have to pay for the repairs down the road?

I'd return it, you don't know what kind of mark has been left on that mirror.

It does.

Is that local warehouse store an authorized Canon Dealer though?

Yes. They are. That is what makes this situation hard.
I AM under warranty. Therefore, I could get both the mirror and the error fixed for free by Canon themselves.

However, Err 99 is a very elusive problem and it has not always been tamed successfully, even by the headmasters themselves.
What's a guy to do here?

Obviously, the mirror issue can wait. As it currently stands, it has had NO EFFECT on my pictures and it's so faint that I can't even see it through the viewfinder. (I confirmed that today by pointing the camera directly at my living room light, both with a lens attached and without.) I'd likely take care of this before my year of warranty coverage runs out, sending it in for a good "wash" while I am able to do so. It's a smart thing to do anyway, so why not?

As for the Error, that's more of a serious issue. It is the one thing that has no easy solution. It may never bother me again... But maybe it will, even AFTER sending it to Canon... (If I am to believe the horror stories posted on the internet.)

Oh, and before I leave, I should note this as well:: I have 29 days to return this thing directly for a full refund, as the warehouse gives you a rather generous return policy of 30 days. No questions asked...

Thoughts?

I'd keep it and send the camera in and get everything fixed/cleaned. When filling in the warranty report, let them know that you saw the ERR 99, but now it's gone. Then if the error occurs again, you still have an entire year to send it in for other repairs.

I would return it, spend a little more and get the T2i kit (refurbished) through CLP.

Pricings through CLP for T2i before TAX.

Rebel T2i (Body) - $447.99
Rebel T2i with EF-S 18-55mm IS - $511.99

Ehh... Canon won't give you a complementary mirror fix--they're going to assume that you caused the damage. It's obviously a user-induced issue, and not a defect, like the Err99 bit.
